Kemanakan arah kita wahai orang melayu?

SUMPAH MELAYU

KAMI umat Melayu beragama Islam pada hari ini berjanji tidak akan berhasad dengki, khianat dan iri hati, bertelagah dan berbalah sama sendiri. 

KAMI berjanji akan bersatu padu dan patuh menegakkan agama Islam. 

KAMI juga berjanji akan bekerja kuat untuk menyara diri dan keluarga kami. 

KAMI sedia bersaing sesama umat Melayu dan kaum-kaum lain dengan jujur dan terhormat.

KAMI umat Melayu bersumpah setia untuk:
  • Mempertahankan kepentingan dan hak Melayu;
  • Mempertahankan kedaulatan Raja-Raja Melayu;
  • Memperjuangkan ikhtisad dan pelajaran bangsa Melayu; dan
  • Mempertahankan maruah Negara supaya aman sejahtera
Dikarang oleh Dato' Onn Jaafar pada tahun 1946 dan diikrarkan di Batu Pahat, Johor.


Hilangkan kefanatikan perjuangan anda tetapi renungkanlah tentang bangsa dan agama sebelum anda membaca sumpah melayu ini tidakkah ia menimbulkan persoalan-persoalan berikut di dalam benak fikiran anda semua??


1. Dimanakah dia semangat orang Melayu yang menjadi tunjang kekuatan perjuangan pada masa awal ambang kemerdekaan?

2. Adakah orang melayu kini terlalu materalistik atau hanya mementingkan diri sendiri untuk mengimbau kembali semangat ini?

3. Apakah peranan kita kini dalam mengembalikan semangat tersebut? 

4. Adakah kita lupa akan asal usul perjuangan Melayu?

Apalah nak jadi dengan orang melayu kita.....mengapa kita kehilangan arah dan pegangan. 

Mengapa kita tidak kembali merenungi sumpah melayu ini bagi memartabatkan agama dan bangsa yang kian luput...


TRANSLATION

The Malay Oath

WE the nations Malay Muslim  today take our oath and pride not to envy, treachery, at odds, and argue with each other. 

WE pledge to uphold the unity and obedience to Islam and its teachings.
 
WE also promise to work hard in order to support ourselves and our families.
 
WE are ready to compete among us and with other races with respect, honesty and dignity.
 
WE swear loyalty to the Malay community in order to:

    
* Defend the interests and rights of Malay;

    
* Defend the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers;

    
* Struggle to increase the economic well-being and education of the Malay race and

    
* Defend the honor of that peace.
